Size Matters... does it have to be BIG?

Best skip size for construction

When choosing a skip size for construction, there are a few factors to consider, such as the type and amount of waste you need to dispose of, the size of your construction site, and your budget.

Here is a guide to the best skip sizes for different types of construction projects:

  • Small construction projects: For small construction projects, such as a bathroom renovation or kitchen remodel, a 6-yard skip is usually sufficient. This size skip can hold up to 60 bin bags of waste, including light rubble, plasterboard, and wood.

  • Medium construction projects: For medium-sized construction projects, such as a garage extension or loft conversion, an 8-yard skip is a good option. This size skip can hold up to 80 bin bags of waste, including heavier rubble, such as bricks and concrete.

  • Large construction projects: For large construction projects, such as a new build or commercial development, a 12-yard skip or larger is required. These skips can hold up to 120 bin bags of waste, including heavy rubble, soil, and construction materials.

If you are unsure which skip size to choose, it is always best to err on the side of caution and go for a larger skip. It is better to have too much space than not enough.

Here are some additional tips for choosing the best skip size for your construction project:

  • Consider the type of waste you need to dispose of. Some types of waste, such as rubble and soil, are very heavy and will take up a lot of space in a skip.

  • Consider the size of your construction site. If you have a small construction site, you may need to choose a smaller skip that can fit in the available space.

  • Consider your budget. Larger skips are more expensive to hire, but they can save you time and money in the long run if you don't have to hire multiple skips.
