Site Waste Solutions Spill Kit Cleans Up Hospital Diesel Spill

A recent incident at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh saw a potential environmental hazard averted thanks to the swift implementation of our Site Waste Solutions Spill Kit.

The spillage of sand contaminated with diesel was discovered and removed alleviating any dangers and hazards.

Diesel fuel is a toxic substance, and contact with contaminated sand can lead to a number of health risks, including:

  • Skin irritation and rashes

  • Respiratory problems

  • Dizziness and headaches

  • Nausea and vomiting

Inhaling diesel fumes can be particularly dangerous, especially for vulnerable individuals like hospital patients. Additionally, diesel contamination can harm plant and animal life in surrounding ecosystems.

Thankfully, Site Waste Solutions Spill Kit was available immediately at the scene and it was quickly and effectively contained, preventing further contamination.

The Spill Kit typically includes absorbent materials like booms, pads, and socks to soak up spilled liquids. Sand itself can also be used as an absorbent, but in this case, it would need to be disposed of properly as hazardous waste.

The contaminated sand was disposed of then transported it to a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.

This incident highlights the importance of having a well-stocked Spill Kit on hand for any potential accidents involving hazardous materials. It's also a reminder of the vital role companies like Site Waste Solutions play in keeping our communities safe and our environment clean.
